WI: To educate our children, treat our sick, and serve our public...

It's not about money, "it’s about allowing public workers to follow through on their obligations to educate our children, treat our sick, and serve our public. It is about defending the commons," writes Sarah Lazare in her CommonDreams.org essay, "Workers Fight Back: The Midwest Unites to Defend the Commons."

Responsive, Not "No" Government

What with Glenn Beck and the Tea Potheads, you'd think that Americans are revolting against a "Big Government" that has smothered their lives. Turns out, however, that a less biased reading of the polls finds that people want a more responsive government and not the one they believe they have: a state captured by "Big Interests." Political psychologist, Stephen Kull, Director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland, recently appraised the data carefully and recognized much more nuance in public opinion than the media suggests. Below we run his piece, "Big Government is Not the Issue" from WorldPublicOpinion.org.

Americans Trending in Opposition to Afghan War

A much neglected CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll (see results for 1/22-24/10) found that 80% of the public feels that the Afghan war is "extremely" or "very important." It also shows that 52% oppose the war, compared with 47% that support it. Taking into account the 3% margin of error, it is fair to say that the country is evenly split on the war. Interestingly, despite the slim majority opposition to the war, 61% still support President Obama's decision to send an additional 30,000 troops.

Help us design and build this site!

There are many ways to help the tech team build the site. The quickest way to have an impact (even if you don't have web building skills) is to click here to take a survey that will be used to think through the site design. If you have web and/or Drupal experience and would like to join the tech team, please send an e-mail to info [ a t ] MajorityAgendaProject [ d o t ] org.

Right now and for the next few weeks we will keep the site open as a testing environment only; it will load much faster and feature greater functionality after its formal launch. For now, don't invite the general public to use the site; at this stage feedback from supporters interested in the site's aesthetics and functionality is the higher priority.
